7 key Spill Kit products explained

1. Booms

Spill containment booms are devices used to contain spills. Placed around the spill area, they prevent the spill from spreading any further.

2. Pads

Spill Kit pads are used to recover spills, especially on water. They are hydrophobic, which means that they absorb hydrocarbons while repelling water. This allows them to float on waterways.

3. FloorSweep - Enviro Floorsweep

Used in General Purpose Spill Kits, and Oil and Fuel Spill Kits, FloorSweep - Enviro Floorsweep, encapsulates oil so it can be disposed of in landfill. It also features microbes which bio-remiate the contaminated soil.

4. FloorSweep - Zeosorb

Used in Hazchem Spill Kits, FloorSweep - Zeosorb, suppresses vapours emitted by spilt chemicals while also encapsulating spills, preventing them from leaching back out.

5. Plug and Dike

This is a clay type of material used to seal small holes in containers and fuel tanks. It is not a permanent seal, but it will last until you can decant the liquids from the holed container.

6. Waste Disposal Bags

After a Spill Kit has been used, the waste disposal bags are used to hold all the contaminated products from the kit. This is so the collected spill will not drip or spill further.

7. PPE Kit

The type of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Kit included will depend on whether you have chosen a Hazchem, Fuel and Oil, or General Purpose Spill Kit.

PPE kits included in Oil and Fuel Spill Kits as well as General Purpose Spill Kits contain coveralls, PVC Gloves and safety glasses to protect the person in a clean-up situation. While the PPE Kit in Hazchem Spill Kits contain splash-proof goggles and acid-rated gloves.
